Ottawa Strong: Ottawa Board of Trade Response to Trump Tariffs
The Ottawa Board of Trade stands united with our Canadian Chamber and Chamber colleagues across Canada in response to President Trump’s recent announcement of unjustified tariffs on Canadian goods, to which Canada has introduced countermeasures to defend its economic interests. The Trump tariffs are unreasonable and will significantly increase costs, disrupting deeply integrated supply chains that cannot be unwound without severe economic damage to both nations. These developments will have far-reaching consequences for businesses and families on both sides of the border, and we are committed to mitigating their impact.
We are working closely with business leaders locally and across Canada to strengthen our competitive edge. Our focus is on advancing policies and programs that reduce barriers and create growth opportunities. We call on business and community leaders, Ottawa residents and consumers to get involved and:
- Share the story of Ottawa, highlight the innovation, diversity, and determination of our businesses and community.
- Spread the truth, these tariffs are unjustified and detrimental to businesses and workers in both countries.
- Strengthen our own economy, support local and Canadian products and services whenever possible.
- Stand with us, proudly declare yourself as part of #TeamOttawa and #TeamCanada, setting an example for others to follow.
Together, we will define our future by building economic resilience through diversifying trade partnerships, removing internal trade barriers, streamlining processes, accelerating project development, embracing new technologies and modernizing policies that impact economic growth. Every option for increasing our competitiveness and productivity must be on the table.
The Ottawa Board of Trade remains steadfast in advocating for effective policies, providing resources, and supporting our business community through these challenges. Together, we will navigate this period of uncertainty and emerge stronger. Now, more than ever, let’s stand united as #TeamOttawa and #TeamCanada.
