Committees, Councils and Task Forces

The Ottawa Board of Trade advocates for its members’ interests within the City of Ottawa. All Board of Trade members are encouraged to take a participatory role in the development of the Board of Trade’s policies by attending events and joining our committees. As members of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, we seek to promote our members’ views through both organizations. We have established the following committees, councils and task forces to help the staff and Board perform their duties in an effective manner.

All committees, councils and task forces report to the Board and have specific mandates. In most cases, they are responsible for developing considered policies within their areas of expertise that, once approved, are used to guide the Board of Trade staff on its actions.

Committees, councils and task forces are chaired by volunteers who are actively supporting the work of both the Board of Trade and businesses in our community.

Capital Build Task Force

Mandate

The Capital Build Task Force aims to function as a (1) leader and catalyst for plans, strategies, programs and services that promote a favorable business climate, (2) and improve the quality of life, and support the orderly growth, development and revitalization of the Nation’s Capital – on both sides of the Ottawa River.

The first five priorities we identified, and sanctioned by the Directors of the Board of Trade are:

  • The redevelopment of LeBreton Flats;
  • The revitalization of the Byward Market;
  • The establishment of an LRT connection between Ottawa and Gatineau;
  • The removal of any prohibitions to establishing federal employment nodes in East Ottawa; and
  • The development of a new Ottawa Hospital campus.

Striving for Sector Representation

The Capital Build Task Force strives to represent the following sectors: Management Consultants, Law, Media, Labour, First Nations, Other Chambers of Commerce, Health, Technology, Real Estate, Banking and Finance, and Tourism and Hospitality.

CEO Council

Mandate

Our mandate is to develop government recommendations and create tactical solutions to help businesses in Ottawa counter the impact of COVID-19 (SURVIVE) and design a rapid recovery (THRIVE).

Our three objectives are:
a) advocacy
b) solutions for the business community and
c) support of the community.

We are turning our focus to designing a rebound strategy and of course, that starts with pubic health.

The Ottawa region rebound strategy needs to be developed now for rapid implementation when health officials advise we are ready. This will help businesses and stakeholders prepare and inspire business and consumer confidence.

Our strategy will be aligned with regional and provincial public policy guidelines and transparent to all members of the community.
