Ottawa Broadcast Set to Celebrate Local Business and the City’s Rising Stars

OTTAWA, June 9, 2020 -- Ottawa businesses face unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They need the support and encouragement of all residents.  So, the Ottawa Board of Trade and Ottawa Business Journal are announcing an online and television broadcast on Thursday, June 25th that will rally support.

The Ottawa Stronger Together broadcast will share compelling stories from local businesses and demonstrate how they are adjusting rapidly to this new economic reality.

Sueling Ching, President and CEO of the Ottawa Board of Trade, encourages business and community leaders to back this initiative. “This is a unique opportunity to further demonstrate commitment to our community and the power of collaboration. All Ottawa residents are invited to join the celebration by hosting a watch party and sharing what they love about our local business community on social media, using #OttawaStrongerTogether,” she says.

The broadcast is part of a $50,000 marketing campaign to rally support for local business that is supported by the Ottawa Board of Trade, Ottawa Business Journal and Rogers Sports & Media.

To provide a source of inspiration to the city, Ottawa Stronger Together will also present this year’s Forty Under 40 recipients, who will be released later this week.

“The pandemic might be disrupting business, but that will not stop us from presenting the Forty Under 40 for the 23rd year,” says Michael Curran, Publisher of Ottawa Business Journal. “These are 40 of the most successful and community-minded young business leaders. We need Forty Under 40 to inspire us and give us hope for a brighter economic future.”

The broadcast will also feature interviews and video messages from national and local celebrities. Sueling Ching will also be speaking about what’s next for Ottawa. OBOT is the strongest voice for businesses in the Capital and has been working hard to be heard by all levels of government in these difficult times.

The show will be co-hosted by 1310 News host and OBJ co-owner Mark Sutcliffe and Sandra Plagakis of KiSS 105.3. The broadcast will be Thursday, June 25th from 8:00 to 9:00 pm on YouTube Live, Rogers TV and OttawaMatters.com.

“We are proud to partner with the Ottawa Board of Trade and Ottawa Business Journal on Ottawa Stronger Together,” says Kalum Figura, Market Sales Manager at Rogers Sports & Media.  “Local businesses form the backbone of our communities & serving them is at the heart of everything we do. This initiative aligns perfectly with our Operation Support Local movement that has showcased more than 800 businesses in the National Capital Region.”

Ottawa Stronger Together is made possible by the financial support of sponsors such as the University of Ottawa Telfer Executive MBA, McMillan LLP, BDO Canada, TEC Canada, Casino de Lac-Leamy, Desjardins, OakWood Designers and Builders and Sure Print and Graphics.
