OBOT Job Opportunity: Manager, Business Development

In this results-driven role, you’ll take ownership of revenue generation across membership, sponsorship, and corporate partnerships. Reporting to the Director, Business and Community Partnerships, you’ll be responsible for managing a strong pipeline, achieving defined sales targets, and securing high-value commitments, including closing individual deals of $50,000 or more. This is a two year term position, with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Growth & Sales Targets

  • Own and deliver on annual sales targets for membership, sponsorship, and Pillar Partnership revenue.
  • Consistently close deals valued at $50,000+, contributing directly to OBOT’s financial growth and strategic priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a proactive sales pipeline, identifying and qualifying prospects across key sectors of Ottawa’s business community.
  • Lead all stages of the sales cycle: prospecting, discovery, proposal development, negotiation, and closing.
  • Report regularly on performance against targets, pipeline activity, and forecasted revenue using OBOT’s CRM system.

Sponsorship & Partnership Development

  • Lead sponsorship sales for OBOT’s signature events, including Business After 5, Policy Symposia, Holiday Cocktail, and other major initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Director to design and price sponsorship packages that align with partner goals and maximize ROI.
  • Manage renewals and relationship growth for existing sponsors and Pillar Partners through exceptional service and follow-up.
  • Identify opportunities for multi-year partnerships and increased investment from existing supporters.

Membership Sales & Growth

  • Drive new membership acquisition with a focus on corporate and organizational memberships.
  • Build and manage a qualified pipeline of prospective members through outreach, referrals, and community engagement.
  • Develop and deliver compelling membership presentations and proposals tailored to business objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth onboarding and retention of new members.

Collaboration, Events & Reporting

  • Work closely with the Communications, Events, and Advocacy teams to ensure sponsor deliverables and member value are achieved.
  • Attend and actively participate in OBOT events and community engagements, which may take place before or after standard working hours.
  • Provide market feedback and sales insights to inform pricing, packaging, and business development strategy.
  • Maintain complete and accurate CRM records for all prospects, deals, and agreements.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 4–6 years of proven success in B2B sales, partnerships, or business development, ideally within a chamber, association, or community-based organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to close five-figure ($50,000+) deals and meet or exceed defined sales targets.
  • Strong record of performance in pipeline management, negotiation, and revenue growth.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, including with senior executives.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce or equivalent) and data-driven sales reporting.
  • Highly organized, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of Ottawa’s business and economic landscape is essential.
  • Must have regular access to a reliable vehicle to attend meetings and events across the city.
  • French language skills are an advantage.
