OBOT Member Spotlight: NutriChem – Bridging Science and Nature in Personalized Health

At the heart of Ottawa’s health and wellness landscape is NutriChem, a 44-year-old family business with a clear mission: to bridge science and nature through personalized, preventative care. NutriChem specializes in combining the best of naturopathic medicine with the expertise of a compounding pharmacy, offering unique, tailored solutions designed for each individual. Their integrated approach is redefining what whole-person care can look like in Canada’s evolving healthcare landscape, giving clients the tools and knowledge they need to take genuine control of their health and well-being.

Discovering New Connections Through the Ottawa Board of Trade

For NutriChem’s CEO, Dr. Emma Pollon Macleod ND, joining the Ottawa Board of Trade marked a turning point. The experience of receiving a 2025 Forty Under 40 award served as an introduction to a side of Ottawa’s business community that had previously been out of reach. “It has opened doors to parts of the business world in Ottawa that I hadn’t been exposed to before,” she noted, underscoring just how valuable OBOT membership has been for expanding networks and perspectives beyond traditional healthcare circles.

Building Professional and Business Growth

Previously immersed mainly in healthcare-focused events, joining OBOT has been a catalyst for growth and learning. “Coming from a clinician background, I have historically been involved in mostly healthcare events in the community. The Ottawa Board of Trade has allowed me to understand the ever-evolving and exciting world of business in Ottawa,” said Dr. Macleod. Connecting with diverse professionals from different sectors, as well as within the healthcare realm, has created meaningful relationships and broadened NutriChem’s understanding of Ottawa’s economic ecosystem.

The Value of a Tight-Knit Business Community

NutriChem highlighted the value of being part of a well-established business group in a close-knit city. OBOT’s open and inclusive environment makes it easy for businesses—from every sector—to get involved and engaged in the community. “Having such a well-established group in a tight-knit community is a way for businesses from any sector to easily become more involved in the community,” Dr. Macleod said. Through OBOT, NutriChem has gained a stronger sense of Ottawa’s pulse: understanding what’s new and upcoming, identifying key issues, and staying informed about major projects and current events shaping the city.

Living and Thriving in Ottawa

What excites NutriChem most about doing business in Ottawa? The people and the culture of preventative health. “The active lifestyles and advocacy for preventative health options—this being the area I am in, I feel so grateful to be part of a city that values health, exercise, good food, and lifestyle”, said Dr. Macleod. Ottawa residents’ passion for enjoying life and their keen interest in thriving well into their later years are both sources of inspiration.

Favorite Places and Inspirations in the City

Dr. Macleod’s appreciation for Ottawa extends to its abundant greenspaces and recreational amenities. “I love the greenspace. I live right off the bike path and love biking with my family along the river and taking in the view. I also grew up right by Britannia Beach—so I have a soft spot for Beachconers ice cream and a sunset stroll to the water’s edge.” These local favorites capture the essence of Ottawa as a city that balances urban life with access to nature and community.

Investing in Ottawa’s Future

On the city-building front, NutriChem is especially encouraged by transformative projects like the upcoming Ottawa Hospital Campus, recognizing its importance and the benefits it will bring to residents. Looking ahead, Dr. Macleod envisions a future Ottawa filled with more neighborhood gathering spots—independent cafes, breweries, restaurants, and coffee shops, where locals can connect easily and build community close to home. “Really just having more spaces in the city that people can connect at without having to get in their car and drive.”

As Ottawa continues to evolve, NutriChem is proud to be part of OBOT’s vibrant network, leveraging the power of collaboration and community engagement to help shape a healthier, more connected city for everyone.
