Anchoring Ottawa as Canada’s Defence Innovation Hub

The Ottawa Board of Trade has long advocated for Ottawa to become Canada’s National Defence Innovation Hub. Today, I was pleased to speak at an event where Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and Sonya Shorey, President and CEO of Invest Ottawa, hosted defence experts and leaders from industry, academia, government and the investment community to unveil a comprehensive strategy aimed at affirming the National Capital Region as Canada’s centre for defence innovation.

As the home to more than 330 aerospace, defence, and security companies, world-class research assets, and direct access to federal leaders, Ottawa is ready for its next chapter as we seek to diversify our economy in the face of potential federal public service workforce reductions. This new strategy harnesses our unique advantages, focusing on collaboration, talent, and leading-edge R&D to support Canada’s sovereignty and drive a resilient, high-growth economy.

We are proud to support this strategy and to continue to work with Invest Ottawa, the City of Ottawa, Ville de Gatineau, and the Kanata North Business Association to build on our region’s strengths and create new opportunities for innovation, jobs, and investment.
