Statement on the Throne Speech by King Charles III
The Ottawa Board of Trade is honoured to mark the historic visit of His Majesty King Charles III to Ottawa, Canada’s Capital City, for the ceremonial opening of Parliament.
We commend the government’s priorities, which reflect the aspirations and urgent needs of businesses and communities across the country. Congratulations and thank you for advancing a new industrial strategy, diversifying export alliances, and finally taking action to eliminate long-standing interprovincial trade barriers. We are especially encouraged by the commitment to accelerate approvals for trade-enabling infrastructure, invest in future energy systems to power our economy, and supercharge housing supply - including the critical reduction of development charges.
We believe that unlocking the economic potential of every region in Canada is key to ensuring broad-based growth and opportunity. A strong and inclusive economy means empowering executives, entrepreneurs and employees in every community to contribute to our collective prosperity.
The focus on fiscal responsibility, economically aligned immigration, attracting top global talent back to Canada, and investing in defence and innovation reflects a bold and strategic approach to nation-building. These efforts are grounded in our core Canadian values: advancing Indigenous reconciliation, celebrating our multicultural identity, and leading in the protection of our planet.
It was inspiring to see downtown Ottawa come alive with thousands of Canadians - families, workers, and visitors - gathering to celebrate our shared history, national sovereignty, and collective priorities. What a powerful display of unity and optimism for the future!
We deeply appreciate His Majesty’s message affirming Canada’s sovereignty and his call to Parliament to unite, collaborate, and provide stability in pursuit of the well-being of all Canadians. His words remind us that through partnership and shared purpose, we can build a stronger, more prosperous nation for all.
We are proud to be part of the True North, strong and free - an ambitious, bold and courageous country, ready to lead in this transformational moment. Together, we stand united in our commitment to building a thriving, inclusive, and prosperous Canada.
