As Canada’s capital and a dynamic hub for innovation across various high-growth sectors, Ottawa's energy infrastructure must undergo a significant and timely evolution to effectively meet rapidly increasing demand. The accelerating trend of electrification across residential housing, transportation systems, and industrial operations is projected to result in a substantial 75% increase in Ottawa's electricity demand by the year 2050, according to projections from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) for Ontario.  

Energy infrastructure is no longer a passive utility; it represents critical infrastructure that underpins the very foundation of economic competitiveness and future prosperity. Without proactive and strategic investment in a resilient, mixed, and forward-thinking energy system, Ottawa faces a significant risk of constraining the growth and development of its most promising and nationally significant sectors: artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and defence innovation.  

To power Ottawa’s growth and our nation’s ambitious goals, we must invest in a diverse and reliable energy supply, significantly enhance energy storage capabilities, and strategically modernize energy distribution systems to effectively serve the city's intensifying residential, commercial, and industrial energy needs.
