Ottawa Board of Trade Welcomes Newly Elected Council, Calls for More Ambition and Action

Statement

Statement from Sueling Ching, President and CEO, Ottawa Board of Trade

The Ottawa Board of Trade congratulates Ottawa’s newly elected Mayor and City Council. We thank all those who put their names forward in service to our city and its future.

With Mayor Mark Sutcliffe returning for a second term and a mix of returning and newly elected councillors, Ottawa has an opportunity to build on the progress already underway while bringing renewed energy and ambition to the work ahead.

Ottawa stands at a pivotal moment. As Canada’s capital, a centre of innovation, and a gateway to global opportunity, our city has the assets, talent, and potential to lead on a national and international stage. The choices we make now will define our economic future for generations.

Our MoreOttawa.ca campaign calls for a new level of ambition, one that matches the extraordinary opportunity before us. Our priorities are clear: Build for Growth. Compete to Win. Elevate the Capital. We must accelerate the infrastructure that enables growth, create the conditions for business and investment to thrive, and build a vibrant, dynamic capital that reflects Canada’s aspirations.

Our ambition must also extend beyond municipal boundaries. Ottawa and Gatineau are part of one interconnected economic region, with extraordinary opportunities to attract global investment, accelerate innovation, and drive prosperity on both sides of the river. By harnessing our collective strengths and advancing a shared regional vision, we can position Canada’s Capital Region as a powerful engine of national economic growth.

A strong economy is the foundation of a strong community. It creates jobs, drives innovation, supports essential services, and delivers the prosperity and quality of life our residents deserve. Economic leadership must be central to every decision about Ottawa’s future.

The Ottawa Board of Trade and our business community are excited to work with the Mayor and Council, alongside our regional, business, and community partners, to advance a bold, shared vision for our capital region. This is a moment for leadership, collaboration, and decisive action.

Together, we are shaping the future of Canada’s Capital, an example of leadership and prosperity for the world.  And we will settle for nothing less than extraordinary.
