Ottawa, October 04, 2018: The Ottawa Board of Trade (OBoT) and the Ottawa Business Journal (OBJ) announced today that Bruce Linton, Founder, Chairman and Co-CEO of Canopy Growth Corporation is the recipient of the 2018 CEO of the Year Award, an honour bestowed upon an outstanding chief executive in our community.

From its landmark marketing deal with rapper Snoop Dogg in 2014 to its ground-breaking multibillion-dollar business relationship with alcohol giant Constellation Brands, Canopy Growth has been an industry trailblazer since its inception and Mr. Linton has been the leading force in building the firm into a pot powerhouse with a market capitalization of over $13 -billion, making it the world’s largest cannabis company.

With cannabis set to become legal for recreational use across Canada on October 17, Canopy Growth has laid the foundation to become the dominant player in what is projected to be at least a $7-billion market by 2019. The company has also revitalized the eastern Ontario community of Smiths Falls, where it transformed a former Hershey factory that was slated for demolition into a thriving cannabis production facility that employs 750 people. The company expects to employ 3,000 people worldwide by next year.
Until late 2017, Mr. Linton led not one but two of the region’s hottest companies. In addition to piloting Canopy Growth, he also spent nearly five years as CEO of Kanata-based communications software firm Martello Technologies, which was named OBoT and OBJ fastest-growing company three years ago and recently went public with a reverse takeover on the TSX Venture Exchange. Mr. Linton currently serves as Co-Chair of the board at Martello along with renowned tech entrepreneur Sir Terry Matthews. In addition, Mr. Linton is an investor in the online sharing platform Ruckify.
The CEO of the Year Award will be presented to Mr. Linton at the Best Ottawa Business Awards (The BOBs) Gala on November 16, 2018 at the Westin Ottawa.
